We flew back to Antananrivo and Jean Luc drove us to the Café de la Gare for lunch, a great bistro in the renovated central train station. In this upscale joint you can find all sorts of people, business, hipsters, tourists and many more.We reserved the afternoon for some souvenir shopping and decide to stay in Sakamanga for dinner. We did not regret it. Great food and lovely ambiance.
Unfortunately it is time to leave this lovely island, I wish we could stay for two more weeks here. The flight to Nairobi was smooth, the most noticeable thing the fly over the great mount Kilimanjaro. We got a taxi from Jomo Kenyatta international to the Hilton in the center. The traffic in Nairobi is horrible and it took about 90 min to arrive in the hotel. We checked in and arranged for a taxi to the Carnivore restaurant. As the name implies, it is not a wise idea to eat there if you are vegetarian. They only serve meat: beef, pork, lamb, ostrich, chicken and more. It is all you can eat until you signal “surrender” by raising a flag on the table. Great meat and great vodka based cocktails, a little expensive though.
On the next day I had some business to do, but in the afternoon we managed to pay a visit to the Nairobi NP. This is a park next to the city, open on one end so that wildlife can come and go freely. It does not compare to Masai Mara but it is a real safari experience and if you are lucky you can see the big cats. We were not. Nevertheless we enjoyed the afternoon ride and I promised myself to return on one of my next visits in Nairobi, this time with a private car.
